Wooden dramatic play sets for preschool classrooms
Dramatic play is where classroom language, social play and role understanding happen. We supply wooden kitchens, shops, home corners and prop sets built for daily group use, with hinged doors, replaceable knobs and props large enough for a 3+ room. MOQ from 20 pcs.
A dramatic play corner works when the props are few, sturdy and open-ended. Twenty well-chosen pieces beat eighty tiny ones: children can find what they need, staff can count it back in, and the set survives being packed away every afternoon.
This page covers the three zones we supply - kitchen, shop and home corner - the configuration for a 16-20 child room, the hardware that wears first, and the purchase notes for schools rotating props between rooms.
The three dramatic play zones
One zone per room is enough for most preschools; larger rooms add a second. The table gives the default configuration for a 16-20 child room.
| Zone | Core piece | Props | Children at once | Footprint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | Play kitchen with hob, sink and oven | 2 prop sets | 3-5 | 1.0-1.5 m2 |
| Shop | Counter with shelves and till | Goods and baskets | 2-4 | 0.8-1.2 m2 |
| Home corner | Bed or table set | Dolls, blankets, storage | 2-3 | 1.0-1.5 m2 |
Configuration for a 16-20 child room
- One kitchen or home corner as the anchor piece, with a defined floor area.
- Two prop sets per anchor: one food or cooking, one cleaning or shopping.
- One low storage unit with labelled bins for props and loose parts.
- A soft seat or rug to mark the zone and absorb sound.
- Keep the zone next to the block corner but not inside the walkway.
Hardware and durability
- Hinges and stays: tested for repeated open/close use; metal hardware, not staples.
- Knobs: fixed with a screw and dowel, replaceable without dismantling the unit.
- Surfaces: water-based finish, wipe-clean, with printed details under the finish.
- Edges and corners: rounded; no exposed screw heads on play surfaces.
- Weight and stability: wide base, wall anchor supplied where the unit is tall.
Buying dramatic play sets
- MOQ 20-30 pcs per model; kitchens and counters are quoted per model.
- Two prop sets ship with the anchor piece; extra sets can be added.
- Stock 7-15 days; production 30-45 days after sample sign-off.
- Flat-pack cartons keep freight low; assembly instructions and hardware are included.
- Replacement hardware can ship with a reorder to keep the zone in service.
Where it goes in the room
- Kitchen zone: hob, sink, oven and cupboard with working doors; one kitchen serves 3-5 children.
- Shop zone: counter, shelves and play goods for turn-taking and early money talk.
- Home corner: bed, table and storage; a quieter zone next to the louder block corner.
- Prop rotation: two prop sets per kitchen, swapped each term to refresh the play.
- Language and story: props that invite a narrative - food, tools, bags, hats.
What a purchasing manager checks
- Are hinges, knobs and doors tested for pull and repeated use?
- What is the height and footprint, and will it fit the zone without blocking the walkway?
- Are the props large enough for a 3+ room, and which pieces need a small-parts label?
- Can the set be cleaned with a damp cloth, and does the finish survive it?
- Are replacement knobs, hinges and shelf pins available?
Questions buyers ask
- What goes in a preschool dramatic play corner?
- One kitchen or home corner, two prop sets, a storage unit and a soft seat. The zone should serve 3-5 children at once and leave a clear walkway.
- Which parts wear out first?
- Hinges, knobs, door catches and shelf pins. All are on the replacement-parts list and can ship with a reorder or on their own.
- Is a play kitchen suitable for 3 year olds?
- Yes, if it is graded 3+ and the props have no small parts. Sets with tiny play food or loose beads are graded higher and labelled accordingly.
